Maths Grinds Galway

Galway students divide fairly cleanly into two groups: the city and its suburbs, and everyone from Connemara, the islands and the east of the county. The syllabus is identical and the access to support is not.

University of Galway pulls a lot of Galway students into science, engineering and medicine applications, and all of those routes need Higher Level maths. For students from Gaeltacht areas there is an added wrinkle, because some sit the exam through Irish, and the mathematical vocabulary they have been taught in does not always match the English-language resources and grinds they can find.

Rural Galway has the same access problem as West Cork and for the same reason. Clifden to Galway city is an hour and a half each way, which rules out a weekday evening class entirely. Online removes that calculation.

The city schools are competitive and generally well resourced, so students arriving from them tend to need targeted work on specific topics, most often calculus or the Paper 2 geometry, rather than a rebuild.
